The Language SchoolFounded in 1992, Tamwood International College is a privately owned and operated company that operates a number of carefully designed and managed English language schools across Canada. Tamwood offers English language courses for adults ages 17-80. All of the Tamwood language schools in Canada have been selected for their excellent locations, their modern facilities, their proximity to popular attractions and their professional environments. All of the language programs that Tamwood offers have been designed to combine the most modern learning techniques with interesting and stimulating subject matter thus making learning English at Tamwood both easy and enjoyable.
The English CoursesGeneral English Tamwood offers 7 levels of instruction in the Core English programs and class size is small (average 12 students, maximum 15 per class). Students at Tamwood learn all of the essential English language skills including grammar, conversation, writing, speaking, listening, pronunciation and vocabulary.
Part-time EnglishStart date: Every Monday. Two one-hour Language Workshops in the afternoons (total: 10 hours). Minimum 2 weeks.
Full-time EnglishStart date: Every Monday. Grammar Class plus Conversation Class (total: 20 hours). Minimum 2 weeks.
Semi-Intensive EnglishStart date: Every Monday. The Full-time English program plus one Language Workshop class (total: 25 hours). Minimum 2 weeks.
Intensive EnglishStart date: Every Monday. The Full-time English program plus two Language Workshop class (total: 30 hours). Minimum 2 weeks.
Special English English + Internship (Cambridge Work Experience Course)This English program offers you the opportunity to learn English through a combination of English classes and an unpaid work practicum in your field of work/study in a Canadian company. The work experience component of this work and study program allows you to take the English skills and theory you learn in the classroom and practice it in a real world situation with native English speakers thus enhancing your language learning. The work practicum component of the course is an important and integral part of the program and makes up 50% of the program duration. This program is designed to give you the English skills you need to work and live effectively in today's global market place.
English + Paid Job (English Co-op Work Program)Students in this "COOP" program improve their English language skills through a combination of English classes, a Job Skills Seminar and a period of full-time paid work in a service position in a Canadian tourism, retail or hospitality company. You can work as many hours as you study. The English Co-OP Program has two program options: the Standard Program Option and the Full Service Option. The Standard Program Option is designed for students who can find their own job with a little help from Tamwood. The Full Service Option is designed so that the student is placed with well-established Tamwood approved employer. Employers include ski resorts, major hotels, restaurants, shops, cafes, bars, tour operators, sports providers, summer camps and much more. Cambridge FCE PreparationThis course prepares students for the University of Cambridge ESOL First Certificate (FCE) exam, which students take in the final week of the program. The FCE is at Level 3 of the Cambridge five level system.
Cambridge CAE PreparationThis course prepares students for the University of Cambridge ESOL Certificate in Advanced English exam, which students take in the final week of the program. The FCE is at Level 4 of the Cambridge five level system. This exam is an important certification for students who want to work overseas in jobs that require English language skills (such as medicine, business and engineering).
International Business EnglishThe International Business English course is designed to give students the English skills they need to work effectively in today's global market place. English skills and vocabulary are developed through exercises, case studies, role plays and research on business topics including: I.T., finance, accounting, marketing, advertising, sales, negotiation, business practices, and cultural comparisons in business operations and structure.
English for LawyersFor lawyers, law students, judges and officials. Course combines specialized seminars on important legal skills with general English classes and legal visits. Seminar topics include: contracts, international arbitrations and mediations, drafting skills, legal research skills and negotiation skills. Features instruction by Canadian lawyers with many years of teaching experience.
Private English TuitionPrivate lessons are designed to meet the personal needs and goals of the student. Students can combine private and group lessons. Many students use private lessons to focus on specialized vocabulary for their career.
Teacher HomestudyStudent lives with the teacher and studies with the teacher in the home. Class schedule and content arranged by agreement between teacher and student. Excellent for students who have limited time and want to learn quickly.
