The Language School

The school was established in 1998 in the Capital of Canada, the site of numerous festivals, light shows, tours, and of course, the center of Canadian Government. GEOS Language Academy Ottawa is located in the very center of the downtown core, just a few minutes walk from art galleries, museums, and our famous ByWard Market which offers open-air shops and a wide selection of restaurants and night clubs.

Ottawa is the capital of Canada and the centre of Canadian government. The buildings of Parliament Hill look like they have been transported directly from Europe! The site of numerous festivals, light shows, tours, and of course, Royal Canadian Mounted Police parades, Parliament Hill has something everyone should see!

In winter or summer, the Rideau Canal offers visitors to Ottawa a unique experience. 7.8 kilometers long, in winter it is the world's largest ice-skating rink; and in summer, it provides a perfect sightseeing route for recreational boating. You can enjoy walking, rollerblading or cycling along its banks too!

The school is located in the heart of downtown Ottawa. It is 2 minutes away from Parliament Hill, conveniently located right in the center of Ottawa's transportation system and a few blocks from Rideau Mall, Ottawa's most popular shopping center.

The school has 10 spacious classrooms. This includes larger classrooms for large groups (including a classroom for TOEFL testing) and smaller classrooms for tutorials.   The maximum number of students in a room is 14.  The average number of students is 10-12. There is a kitchen area, complete with refrigerator, microwaves, and a lunch area with tables and chairs where students can enjoy their meals! It's a great place to keep practicing English. Students can prepare hot drinks, heat up meals, and make light snacks during their break times. We have comfortable sofas and common areas where students can relax and chat with friends. The school has a big television with cable service where we also watch movies and sporting events!  If you like to sing we also have a Karaoke machine for fun afternoons! Every Friday we hold general assemblies and graduations. Our school has computers that students can use to surf the internet and write e-mails.  For students that have their own laptops, we also have free WiFi internet service which can be accessed from any room in our schools.

The English Courses

Private English Tuition

Private lessons consist of the teacher and student only. The course content can be tailored to the needs of the student. This is a wonderful opportunity for highly motivated students to concentrate on the skills they need most. Course is subject to availability at the school.

TOEIC Exam courses

This Test of English for International Communication checks your practical and everyday English listening and reading skills. It is a two-hour multiple-choice test. TOEIC proficiency scores are used by a wide range of companies as a management tool to check a candidate’s English skills when considering recruitment, promotion, job-training and overseas placements.

Intensive English

This course starts every Monday and caters for students from beginner to advanced level. This course is for students with an interest in improving their English in a wider, general context, whether it is for travel, friendship or their career. The course is divided into morning and afternoon components, making it possible for students to study full-time and take electives. Regular testing is done to monitor the students’ performance and give feedback.

Semi-intensive English

This course starts every Monday and caters for students from beginner to advanced level. This course is for students with an interest in improving their English as well as an outside activity like working. Lessons are generally held in the morning, giving students free time to follow their own interests. The course provides the same kind of learning experience and the same components as in the Intensive Course, but obviously progress will be slower. Course is subject to availability at the school.

TOEFL Exam courses

TOEFL stands for Test of English as a Foreign Language. Many universities and institutions around the world use TOEFL scores as a condition of entry, especially in the USA and Canada.
TOEFL can now be taken as a written test or as a computer-based test. The test has four sections, which must all be answered. The sections are Listening, Structure, Reading and Writing. The difference between the written and the computer-based tests is that the computer-based test is computer-adaptive. This means that the computer chooses the next questions on how well you answered the last question.

English for Business Purposes

Students who wish to improve their English skills for business will certainly benefit from taking this course. It also prepares students for entry into business courses, or to take the Cambridge Business English Certificate. The course gives students practice in reading and writing business correspondence, and to communicate verbally (telephone skills, presentations, talks and business meetings). The focus is also on building the students' business vocabulary, as well as improving students' research skills.

Holiday English Course Programs

Students can have the opportunity to combine an English language course with a sightseeing or adventure holiday! Holiday programs can be designed to focus on English and/or recreational activities, can be combined with homestay and a 24 hour emergency support service.
Our Holiday programs offer the student a wide variety of cultural and recreational activities. Activities range from pleasant barbecues and picnics to day trips to famous places.
A program can be designed to suit any requests.

Accommodation options

Students have the following housing options:

- Homestay

A Homestay is the greatest experience you can have when you travel. In an instant, you make friends and become a part of a family with whom you will correspond forever. You will play a great part in global exchange, promoting understanding and respect for other cultures and views.

Our Student Services Departments ensure that students are placed in caring and experienced Homestay families, while carefully matching families to students' Homestay requests. Students' welfare is as important to the school as their academic achievement, and we believe that this is what distinguishes us from other schools.

Schools provide 24-hour emergency contact numbers, which allow not only for students to feel safe and at ease, but their families in their own countries can have a peace of mind, too.
