The Language School

- School Environment: Heart of Downtown; Within one block of Robson Street, Bus/Skytrain Station, 7-11, Major Banks etc.
- Building: Large private language school in Vancouver Downtown with its unique and exclusive 4 floor building and 30 classrooms, with a capacity of 450-500 students in total. Classrooms on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th floors. Offices on the 4th floor. Large rooftop garden on the 5th floor.

The English Courses

Intensive/Super Intensive English

Programs intended to prepare students for: exam courses such as Cambridge and TOEFL, university pathways, career advancement, or for personal interest. In the morning students study general English. There are six levels, from Elementary to Upper Advanced. Students study reading, writing, communication, and structure as a part of this integrated course. Students registered in the Intensive Program (24 hours per week) choose one elective in the afternoon while those students registered in the Super Intensive Program (30 hours per week) choose two electives in the afternoon. Electives are specialized classes which allow students to focus on specific skills or needs. Elective classes include: Communication, Current Events and Media, Business English, Grammar, Pronunciation, Vocabulary Building, Writing, TOEFL, and TOEIC.

 

Certificate/Diploma in English

12, 24, 36, and 48 week programs for students seeking proficiency in English. These programs are perfect for students wishing to take International or Canadian English exams.

 

Exam Preparation Courses

Intensive Preparation courses for TOEFL, TOEIC, FCE, CAE, CPE and IELTS. The Canadian College instructors use the latest in teaching methodology and keep up to date on modifications to exam content. CCEL prides itself on the high success rate of students in these programs. CCEL is an official TOEFL Testing Center.

 

English for Executives

A combination of small group English lessons, private one to one tutoring, individualized computer assisted learning, and a choice of specialized electives, internships, or use of executive services.

18 hours per week of formal classroom work using an integrated curriculum designed for mature students.  Maximum class size is 9 students and minimum age is 25 years. Lessons are Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 12:05pm, with a coffee break at 10:10am.  All classes are on the executive floor with a professional boardroom setting, comfortable seating and appropriate décor.  Teachers are selected on their qualifications and experience working with professionals.  Students can enter the class any Monday and study for as many weeks as they wish.

 

English for Academic Purposes (EAP)

The University of Alberta Faculty of Extension has a partnership agreement with the Canadian College of English Language whereby students can study their English for Academic Purposes (EAP) courses at the CCEL campus in Vancouver. There are two courses entitled ESL 140 and ESL 145. The University of Alberta approves ESL 145 as meeting the English language proficiency requirement for undergraduate admissions.

 

Business English Work Study Program (BEWS)

This course has been designed by experienced business professionals and is for students who need to use English for international business. In the program case studies and class projects involving work-related situations enhance students’ reading, writing, listening and speaking skills.

The Academic component is composed of an Intensive English Language program (optional 6 levels) and/or Cambridge Exam Preparation (FCE, CAE, CPE) program followed by the mandatory 12 week Business English Program.

In our Internship Program students will experience a Canadian work environment, get to know colleagues from other countries, enhance their language abilities and expand their career horizons. The unpaid or paid Internship, is monitored, has specific learning goals and is an essential component of the BEWS program.

 

Certificate/Diploma in Business (BEC)

The Certificate in Business (BEC) helps reinforce the communication ability of students in a business context. This course was developed through the University of Cambridge and is internationally recognized. With the help of work-related situations and exercises, the course assesses reading, writing, listening and speaking skills. This course is designed for students who need to use English in the context of international business.

 

Internships in Canada - Internship Program

This comprehensive program is designed specifically for university students who need a legitimate international internship study program as part of their degree. The program is structured so that it starts with formal lessons studying communication in English. The second part is spent with a company that gives the student tasks related to his university studies and chosen career. The nature of the tasks will appropriate to the abilities and skills of each individual and the needs of the company. Every student wishing to take the Canadian Internship program must study an equal amount of time in English classes before the internship.

 

English Tutoring

Private English lessons with Canadian College qualified instructors are a fast, and effective way for students to improve their English abilities. Private lessons take place in the executive classrooms which create more professional and comfortable surroundings.

 

Youth Summer Camp

The Canadian College of English Language has partnered with YMCA Camp Elphinstone which is Vancouver's safest and friendliest Youth Summer Camp. YMCA Summer camps have been running since 1907. The Canadian College and the YMCA Camp Elphinstone are committed in providing the highest quality youth camp in Vancouver. 

YMCA Camp Elphinstone is located a 40-minute ferry ride from Vancouver. We offer wonderful one-week, two-week and four-week camping adventures for campers six to 17 years old. We are committed to the growth of individual campers through community and friendship building. We offer land-based activities, a kilometre of oceanfront with extensive water based activities and outtrips.

Situated on BC’s Sunshine Coast, near Gibson’s, YMCA Camp Elphinstone is the perfect place for kids to have fun this summer. Our program is designed to provide safe and creative activities for young people to take part in while surrounded by the incredible natural beauty of our rain forest and ocean shoreline. Day campers spend their days in camp doing sports, games, arts and crafts, swimming, theme days and other special events.

Camp Elphinstone is committed to providing quality programs, which focus on personal growth, learning and self-esteem. We believe that participation in outdoor activities helps to promote healthy living and physical activity. Camp Elphinstone is truly a place of a Million Memories!

Camp for ages 7-11 (Chapman)

This camp is the perfect introduction for a younger or first-time camper. The emphasis is on individual care as campers gain comfort and confidence in the camp setting. Each cabin group works together to choose parts of the program to meet their interests and skill levels. Campers also have a chance to choose two activities to focus on through ‘interest-group’ time and take part in all-camp and section events. Chapman campers will live in cabins with up to nine others their age and two group leaders. Possible Chapman activities include kayaking, canoeing, archery, arts & crafts and swimming.

Camp for ages 12-15 (Dakota)

This camp gives an opportunity to build new skills and meet challenges in a variety of camp activities. Campers come together as a group to design their cabin schedule for one- or two-week stay. Dakotas also take part in ‘interest groups’ and camp-wide events. Dakotas continue along the progression started in our Chapman section, building on past strengths and gaining new ones. Time is also provided for building new and renewing old camp friendships. Possible Dakota activities include high ropes, out-tripping and Laser sailing.

 

Youth Vacation Course

The Youth Vacation program is for students from ages 12-17 that are interested in learning English in the morning and joining guided activities in the afternoon. Classes in the afternoon are in a closed program with qualified teachers.

 

Canadian Farmstay Program

Farmstay on a Canadian Farm in Kamloops close to Vancouver, Canada. They are open year round as a guest ranches and it is for this reason that they require farm stay participants. The ranches require assistance feeding and saddling horses, painting and building fences, out door work, cooking for guests and general clean up and housekeeping duties.

 

Computer Course

Learn Microsoft Office 2000 is completely flexible, offering both trial and error and do-as-I-do methods of instruction. The learner works through the courseware using the actual operating system, aided by step-by-step instruction. A Office Professional Teacher can be accessed at any point to coach the learner through difficulties.
