Educación Secundaria para Extranjeros en Coquitlam School District 43 The Coquitlam School District's International Education Program provides an opportunity for students outside of Canada to enter our school district where they can learn English while pursuing academic and career programs. Students worldwide receive valuable learning experiences by studying abroad, not only through improving their English language skills, but also by making lifelong international friends and absorbing the Canadian culture, all in beautiful British Columbia.
The Coquitlam International program fosters the building of friendships between Canadian and international students and their families through the sharing of experiences and backgrounds. Coquitlam is the third largest school district in British Columbia with 30,000 students in 66 schools. The district includes the cities of Coquitlam, Port Moody and Port Coquitlam, and the villages of Belcarra and Anmore. The total population in the Tri-Cities area is 206,000 spread over 200 square kilometers.
We are only 30 minutes from downtown Vancouver by car or Sky Train. Two major universities, Simon Fraser University and the University of British Columbia, are both a short commute from Coquitlam. The world class Whistler Mountain ski resort, the host site of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, is less than 2 hours away by car. We enjoy a mild climate with a safe environment and an affluent lifestyle. Nestled in the mountains and edged by the Pacific Ocean and Fraser River, Coquitlam truly is an ideal setting for international students with excellent year-round recreation, shopping and ethnic dining. Students Our students come from all over the world to attend Kindergarten to Grade 12 in Coquitlam School District International Education Program. Some of the countries represented by our International students are: Austria, Brunei, China, England, Fiji, Finland, France, Germany, Guatemala, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Macau, Mexico, Norway, Romania, Russia, South Africa, Taiwan, Thailand, Singapore, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, United States, and Vietnam. Many programs are available for International Students throughout the school year. Full year programs for 10 months with students integrated into regular Canadian classrooms are offered as well as short term Intensive ESL programs for as short as 1 week at a time. We offer a Summer ESL/Culture Program during July and August with half day morning classroom time and afternoon cultural activities to implement their newly acquired English skills. English 9,10 or 11 Preparation classes are also offered during the summer. 4-week Short term Intensive ESL courses are offered from September to June for Elementary, Middle and Secondary students.
The provincial curriculum consists of a challenging core of courses: English, social studies, mathematics, biology, chemistry, physics, fine arts, and career and technology studies. In addition, students may select from a number of electives to create a unique program that meets the requirements of the educational system of the province of British Columbia. Students who graduate from grade 12 in Coquitlam's public school system are qualified to apply to all univer- sities, colleges and institutes in Canada and elsewhere. International Baccalaureate and Advanced Placement Programs are in place for more academically capable students.
Advanced, university level subjects are common; students receive credit for exceptional performance in these subjects that can be applied towards entry into post-secondary institutions worldwide. International students have the advantage of graduating from a leading Canadian school system while gaining fluency in English, a skill that has practical applica- tions worldwide. Coquitlam School District offers International Students full time programs in Elementary, Middle and Secondary levels. The school year begins in September and runs through to the end of June.A second intake date of January is available for elementary and middle school students. Secondary students may start in February. Our Secondary program includes two 5-month semesters beginning of September to end of January and beginning of February to end of June. Our Elementary and Middle school programs offer a 10-month Kindergarten to Grade 8 curriculum to International Students starting in early September till the end of June. Again, International students have the option of starting later but they will be placed in a current class as space permits. Educación Secundaria para Extranjeros en School District 48 (Squamish-Whistler-Pemberton)The International Student Program allows students from around the world to study and learn alongside Canadian students of the same age. The program encourages cultural awareness and international understanding by bringing students together and enabling them to experience similar social and academic opportunities.
The Sea To Sky School District is located in British Columbia's spectacular Sea to Sky corridor where nature has provided tremendous recreational opportunities. The parks, forests, mountains and beaches are free for you to enjoy.

Squamish
Squamish is a growing and safe community of 16,000 people, located just 67 kms north of Vancouver. Squamish has 6 elementary schools and 2 secondary schools.
Whistler
Whistler is a world famous all-season resort municipality, renowned for quality skiing on the twin mountains of Whistler and Blackcomb. Whistler has 2 elementary and 1 secondary school and is only a 40-minute drive from Squamish.
Pemberton
Pemberton is a rural community supported by forestry and agriculture. Pemberton has 1 elementary school and 1 secondary school. The District Outdoor Education centre is located in the Pemberton Valley on 237 acres surrounded by huge snow-capped peaks. Pemberton is a 30-minute drive from Whistler.
International students are able to live and study in any one of these clean, small, and safe communities.
