Demi-Pair Program in Australia with LSI Brisbane

Language Studies International schools are specialist language learning centres that provide students with opportunities to learn languages in the countries where those languages are spoken. LSI Brisbane opened in June 1996 and is fully accredited by the National English Language Teaching Accreditation Scheme and is a member of English Australia.

Demi-pair placements are offered to LSI Brisbane students so that they can practice English, help Australian families and become familiar with Australian ways of life. Demi-pairs provide their host families with 15 hours childcare and practical help per week in exchange for a single bedroom, meals and the experience of life in the family’s home. Participation in this swap of culture and practical help is voluntary and neither demi-pairs nor their host families receive any money.

Placements are for 12 week periods.

DEMI-PAIR DUTIES

Demi-pair duties include: childcare, cooking, cleaning, tidying, laundry, ironing.

DEMI-PAIR BENEFITS

In exchange for 15 hours work per week, the host will provide: 3 meals per day, a single room, the experience of life in an Australian family.

WHO CAN JOIN?

Students can apply to work as a demi-pair if they:
- have a lot of experience working with children
- can work for 15 hours per week doing childminding and light household duties
- appreciate cultural difference and adapt well to new situations
- will study at LSI Brisbane for a minimum of 10 weeks per 12 weeks as demi-pair
- are at least 18 years old
- be able to use and understand English at an intermediate level or higher
